Is this normal? PMI is still on my loan
On a conventional loan, PMI ends by itself only when your balance is scheduled to reach 78%. Check your dates, then ask in writing.

Check your dates
You can ask your lender in writing to cancel it once your balance is scheduled to reach 80% of the home's original value (the lower of the price and the appraisal), with a good payment record; it ends automatically at 78% if you're current on payments (CFPB). Rule1
Why it might still be on
Not at 80% yet. Extra payments can bring your 80% request date closer, and PMI must end automatically at 78% if you're current. Rule1,2
Your payment record. A good payment history means: No payment 60 or more days late in the 12 months that began 24 months before the cancellation date (or your request), and none 30 or more days late in the 12 months before it. Rule1,3,2
How to ask
When to call a professional
On a Fannie Mae loan, with a higher value. On a Fannie Mae loan you can ask to end PMI based on today's value, shown by a value check that includes an interior and exterior inspection, plus a clean payment record (nothing 30+ days late in 12 months or 60+ in 24). Rule7
